In an effort to keep the TV off, I had everyone do some good old puzzles last night. Caleb and I did his while I puttered about in the kitchen. Never in a million years did I think doing a puzzle with him would give me so much insight into his little world this summer. What began as a, "Can I ask you something?" turned into him telling me about someone that said she had a crush on him back in Austin when we were there and how that made him feel (embarassed!). Weeks have passed since our Austin trip, including a 16-hour car ride and it never came up. Lots of laying in bed at night while we say our prayers, and it never came up. SO many opportunities for him to tell me about the things that have been going on in his head and all it took was a little puzzle time for him to spill the beans. Totally made my night! I love this little guy more than anything, and would like to believe that if we work really hard at it, we can keep the lines of communication open. While he may be only 8 at the moment, to him this was a BIG deal to talk about, and I know that in a snap he is going to be 15 and the "things" we discuss will be bigger. Can't imagine missing out on all that because he doesn't feel he can tell me. And we will be doing our best to make sure he knows he can tell us anything.....Tuesday, July 28, 2009
This Puzzle
