Caleb and Grace had an awards ceremony at their school today. Everyone got awards for things they have accomplished or achieved throughout the year. We have been there since January, so I was a little nervous that my kids were going to feel a little left out since they haven't had as much time to show their teachers what traits they have (good and bad!!). And honestly, I'm not sure I see the point in handing out awards when some clearly have an edge over others academically that just comes naturally. Caleb has gotten some kind of award for perseverance the past two years. Either with Math, or reading, or something along those lines. He is one who really has to put everything he has into something. From the day he was born, he has been persevering. Whether it be 4 eye surgeries, speech therapy, or falling behind in something and really having to give it his all to keep up....he does it. And today when his teacher announced she had choosen him to receive the award for perseverance, it hit me like a ton of bricks. Three years in a row speaks volumes to me because I can now look back and SEE all these times when he was showing such perseverance and I maybe didn't pay as much attention to it as I should have. Well I am on it now! And we are his biggest cheerleaders. He is like the little engine that could, and goes and goes and goes. And although I would have loved to see him win an award for perfect attendance, or winning a spelling bee.....in my eyes, for this little boy..it was the PERFECT award for him. We love you dude and are so proud of the person you are growing up to be.
