Rest In Peace

Well..it happened. Grace's gerbil, Bindi The Jungle Girl/Chloe/ Ward went on to "gerbil heaven". A very sad day for a 6-year old little girl who LOVED playing with her gerbil almost every day. Drew noticed tonight that it was not moving and then after close examination we determined it was in fact, not alive. So we broke the news to Grace, who was VERY upset. Then we told her we could bury it out back...and the adventure began. A burial fit for a queen. Daddy made a "casket" out of an old Capri Sun box (and lots of tape!), Grace and I decorated it, and we even made a headstone. Daddy and Grace went out first to dig the hole, and then when she was ready we all came out and put a peony (thank goodness I was growing some out front!!) on the box and said a nice thing (or two) about Bindi. Grace explained how she loved Bindi even though she had yellow teeth, Maddie said that she still loved her eventhough she bit her finger really hard one time and didn't let go, and Caleb being the super, sensitive male grunted something about how much noise it made at night. :) So, life goes on...and Grace now understands a little bit about the circle of life. And we are trying to decide if she would like to have another one again.........
